Lady Wisdom competes with Worldly Wisdom in the marketplace of ideas. The principles of godly conduct are not to be transmitted secretly to a small band of initiates. They are to be proclaimed at the busy crossroads of the noisy cities. In the entrances of the gates—the deep gateways where the elders sat to discuss community policy—there wisdom begs for a hearing. Wherever a crowd of people assembles, wisdom proclaims her message by prophets and teachers (1:20–21). Wisdom appeals to three classes:
